Day 1a of the Main Event in the Asia Pacific Poker Tour APPT Macau kicked off on Wednesday.269 players registered and Shih-Chieh Su finished day 1a in the lead with 171,800 chips.

Return of Phil Ivey became the main news of the event. Prior the start a lot or rumors circulated that he was seen in Macao and would be playing this event. All those rumors turned out to be true when Ivey appeared and took his seat at the table during level 2 of Day 1a.

Ivey did not make any comments about his decision to play this event and fully concentrated on the game, playing a lot of pots and building his stack up to 95,000 at some point during the last level of the day. In this hand a player in the mid position opened up with 2,200. Ivey, on the button, called. The flop came with 9d, Jc, 9h. The first player bet 3,100 and Ivey called again. 7c appeared on the turn and both players decided to check. 5c came on the river. Ivey's opponent chose to bet with 7,300. After some thought Ivey reraised by 5,000 and his opponent chose to muck his cards. Ivey finished the day with 51,200 chips but this still leaves him in a fair position at the start of the day 2.

Other well-know players who made it into Day 2 include Alex Kravchenko, Jackson Zheng, Raymond Wu, Julian Powell, Grant Levy and David Steicke. Unfortunately Andrew Hinrichsen, Mark Vos, Ori Miller, Jonathan Karamalikis, Michael Pedley and Emanuel "Curly" Seal failed to advance and hit the rails during the first day of the event.

Day 1b will commence on Thursday at 12:00 CST and 300 players are expected to participate.
