Aussie Millions 2012 $100,000 Challenge

It has become a tradition since 2006 to roll out Aussie Millions $100,000 Challenge as an annual event to attract the best of the bet of poker elite to the tables. 2012 was not an exception and 22 players paid a six figure buy-in for their seats and a chance win a huge prize.

This event has a unique structure: 100,000 chips stating stack, no antes and speed limit betting. As expected the field was full of super stars and the action was world class. It tool 10 hours to work down to the final eight players and the two top leadboard positions are taken by two players who so famous in Australia. Gus Hansen, 2007 Main Event winner in 2007, is in the lead closely followed by  Australian Joe Hachem, 2006 Main Event winner.

Dan Shak, the winner of this event in 2010, who also has most impressive rating in high roller live events, what one of unexpected early departures. He was eliminated second just after Mike Watson headed to the door. However they both were soon jined by Tom Dwan, Tony Bloom, Masa Kagawa and another local hero Jonathan Karamalikis.

15 players were still in the game by the time of the dinner break. When they rejoined the table Tony G made his late arrival and did a brilliant catching work making into the final table. However another eight players were not that lucky including Daniel Alaei, Daniel Negreanu, Tobias Reinkenmeier, Daniel Cates, J.C. Tran and Erik Seidel.

Jason Mercier was very close to be in the final until his pocket eights ran into pocket tens of Mikhail Smirnov. Phil Ivey fell on the bubble when he went all in with pocket eights on the flop of 9, 7, 6. Hansen called with 6, 7 for a two pair. Unfortunately for Ivey the turn and the river were blank and his departure put an end to Day 1.

The top four players will collect a reward starting from a quarter of a million AUD and the winner of $100,000 Challenge will collect the top prize of over one million AUD.
