To start with eminations were fast and during the first hour two short stacks busted out. First Sean Robey hit the rail in the 10th place, he was soon followed by Tamara Volkoff in the ninth.
Nax Sibaei finished eighth when he first lost a massive pot to Rubie and then had to be all in with Qc, 3d against Manny Stavropoulos' Ac, 6d. The board offered no help to Sibaei and he left for the cashier to collect AUD $19,000 pay out.
Sharif Derias was next through the door when he pushed all his remaining chips against Rob Angood and failed to compete with the nuts. Angood then went on and eliminated Stavropoulos in the sixth place with pocket sixes against pocket fours. Angood carried his attack on and sent Tam Truong to the rail in the fifth place with As, Qs against Ad, 3h.
John Thompson started the day with the third shortest stack but managed to hold on for a long while and finished in the forth place.
With only three players remaining the action was from Rubie as he began his assault and won a massive pot from Angood with pocket aces against As, 9d. Angood could not recover from that defeat and left in the third place.
In the heads up Rubie held 2 to 1 chip lead against Scott Wilson. Rubie held his advantage for a long while but then things began to change when Rubie started the pot with 125,000 chips and Wilson three-bet to 250,000. Rubie called and the dealer opened 8h, 2d, 7d on the flop. Wilson bet 350,000, Rubie called. Qs came on the turn. Wilson checked, Rubie bet 325,000 and Wilson called. The river brought Ac, Wilson checked again, Rubie pushed a big portion of his chips into the middle, Wilson called and Rubie showed Qd, 8d for a two-pair. Wilson carried on to look disappointed. Rubie was confident that he won and went to the rail to celebrate with his fans. Unfortunately for Rubie Wilson still had enough chips for a few big blinds so Rubie returned to the table and apologized for his premature actions. Wilson left with a small stack had to push all in on every hand and managed to double up on a few times to get him back on track. However in the final hand Wilson was all in on the flop of Ts, 4d, Qs. Rubie’s Qc, Jd put him well ahead of Wilson’s 4c, 3c and this both the turn and the river blanking Wilson finished in the second place with AUD$125,000
