Epic Poker League began in January this year and from the start a strict list of criteria was set up to establish which players were allowed to participate. This list does not only includes guidelines in personal and professional conduct but all players could only qualify to play in the $20,000 buy-in Main Events if their achievements in the live events around the world were satisfactory.
However it was announced on Tuesday that Doyle Brunson, “Texas Dolly” became the first Lifetime Member of the Epic Poker League. For now on he can play in any Main Event regardless of his performance in other tournaments.
Doyle Brunson, who is known as the “Godfather of Poker” won 10 WSOP bracelets and has over $6 million live tournaments’ winnings in his career. He is also thought of as one of the hardest high stake ring games players and an author of many poker books including “Super System”.
Annie Duke, Epic Poker League Commissioner, told Associated Press ”He just has this secret sauce of every accomplishment you can imagine, big generosity to the poker community, incredible longevity, amazing ambassadorship and then on top of that he's just an easy guy to really like".
Although Brunson qualified for his achievements under players’ criteria he did not participate in any of the earlier Epic League Main Events this year. And he told Associated Press “As I'm getting older, these tournaments are getting too hard to come through. It's probably not worth it to me anymore to really go on the tournament grind, so I don't plan on playing a whole lot of tournaments the rest of my life. I much prefer to play cash games."
The next Epic Poker League event is starting on Wednesday 14th of December 2011 and will be held at Las Vegas’ the Palms Casino Resort.
