By Julia, 03, October, 2011 - 12:38

411 players came for Day 1b of the European Poker Tour EPT in London 2011 taking the overall number of participants to 681 players, which is well over the expected 500-player mark. The prize pool was set up at £3,351,350 with £750,000 top prize and 104 paid places. Benny Spindler finished the day in the chip lead with 160,800 chips and 255 players advanced into Day 2.

A good part of Spindler’s chips came from Nicolas Levi. In this hand one of the players raised preflop to 1,350, Levi reraised 3,400 and Spindler reraised again to 10,000. The first player folded leaving Spndler and Levi in the game. Levi then shoved with 40,000 and Spindler instantly called. Spindler opened pocket aces to see 7d, 4d from Levi. The flop came with 10d, 4h, 2d giving Levi a flush draw, however 2c and Jc followed to finish Levi’s hopes and sent him to the rail.

Once again a lot of well known players were seen at the tables including Daniel Negreanu, Victor Ramdin, David, Williams. Joe Hachem, Jason Mercier, Vanessa Selbst and Angel Guillen. Although Selbst and Negreanu hit the rail earlier in the day the rest are still in the game and hoping for success. Mercier finished with 99,200 chips and put a note “Future EPT London Champion” on his bag.

Mercier’s chip stack took a massive rise of 45,000 chips in just one hand against Andrei One. One raised to 1,100, Mercier reraised to 2,725, One reraised to 6,200 and Mercier answered with 12,050. Still not satisfied One pushed all in. Mercier opened A, K offsuit and One showed 9s, 7s. Unfortunately for One the board refused to cooperate. First the flop of A, J, 6 with two clubs and just one spade and then the turn and the river completely missing One.

Other well-known players who fell victims to Day 1b were Liv Boeree, Bill Chen, Leo Fernandez and Bertrand Grospellier.

Day 2 will begin on Sunday at 12:00 BST when 417 remaining players will carry on their fight for the top prize. Lukasz Golczyk the winner of the Day 1a will return as the chip leader holding 211,600 chips.
