Saturday saw the start of the European Poker Tour (EPT) San Remo Day 1b. 477 players registered for the event making the total number entrants to 837. The total prize pool generated was €3,734,694. Taylor Paur finished Day 1B of the EPT San Remo 2011 in the chip lead with 188,200 chips and became the overall leader for Day 2. Brandon Cantu bagged 180,00 and in second place.
Once again plenty of well-known faces could be seen in the room, including Vanessa Selbst, Eugene Katchalov, Johnny Lodden, Salvatore Bonavena McLean Karr, Nick Yunis, Ted Forrest, Anton Wigg, Elio Fox, Melanie Weisner and Liv Boeree. All those players made into Day 2 of the event. Boeree won EPT San Remo Title in April 2010 with €1,250,000 top prize this year she is playing again hoping fro the second running title.
Weisner won one of the biggest pot of the day in a big three-way all in. Luigi Diana raised 1,200, than Weisner three-bet 3,325 and Gianfranco Picone pushed all in with 7,825. Diana called without hesitation. Weisner took some time to consider her actions and then raised 13,075, Diana quickly called again. The side pot contained 10,500 chips. The flop brought 2s, 3d, 5d. Diana checked, Wisner bet 4,600 chips and Diana called.
Kc appeared on the turn, Diana, with 45,000 in the stack, checked, Weisner, with 34,500 chips left in the stack, pushed a bet of 10,350 into the middle. Diana check-raised to 23,000, Weisner went all in and Diana called.
Diana opened Ah, Kh, Weisner had pocket aces and Picone showed pocket queens. 7c on the river missed all players, eliminated Picone, crushed Diana and pushed Weisner up to six figure chip count.
Jake Cody, Eddy Sabat, James Mitchell, Matt Waxman and Janie Rosen were all eliminated during the course of the day.
There are 128 paid places in this event with minimum cash prize of €7,000 and €800,000 for the winner. Day 2 will begin on Sunday at 14:00 CET.
