The change of opinion on behalf of the US Department of Justice in regards to the Wire Act is giving more and more senators a chance to review their position of online poker legalization.

On Tuesday January the 17th 2012 Jeff Daniels, Iowa’s senator, told Des Moines Register about his plans to propose a new Internet Poker bill in Iowa. Danielson’s opinion the DOJ’s clarification on its position about the Wire Act will fuel online poker legalization in the USA on the intrastate level in the very near future and will permit Iowa to join other states like Nevada and District of Columbia, which have already approved this activity.

Danielson commented “We believe that because of the Department of Justice ruling, we can now have a multi-state compact.”

It is a common view that multistate online poker could generate big revenues for the state that permit such activities. Although there are still concerns that small states will face liquidity problems and will need to link with other states to create interstate platforms.

Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission published a study in December last year which outlined different ways of regulation and legislation of internet poker in Iowa. The information provided in this study will be used to set up legislative infrastructure for the new bill and it is estimated that Iowa could receive from $3 to $13 million of extra tax revenue a year.
