World Poker Tour WPT Borgata came to an end on Friday night in Atlantic City. Six players came back to the final table to fight for a chance to go away with the largest prize in the WPT of over $920.000. After a long day of play the title and the main prize were awarded to Bobby Oboodi. Obody began the day in the chip lead closely follwed by Fred Goldberg.
The first elimination happened on the 11th hand of the game. Despite the observers expectations the first one to leave the action was not short stacked Jim Hwang. With the blinds of 80,000/160,000 and 20,000 ante Oboodi raised to 340,000 from under the gun when the action folded to Ricky Hale he pushed all in with 2.08 million. Oboodi called with Ah, Kh. Hale opened Ac, 10s. The flop came with 10d, 9s, 2d giving Hale a lead, then Ks came on the turn reversing the advantage to Oboodi, Jd on the river secured Oboodi’s hand and sent Hale home in the 6th place with $186,585.
At the start of the day Oboodi was in the lead and dominated the table however on the 23rd hand Goldberg overtook him for a while when with the blinds of 100,000/200,000 and 20,000 ante Goldberg raised from the button and Obood, on the small button, called. The flop brought As, Ah, 4h. Oboodi checked, Goldberg bet 600,00 and Oboodi called. The turn opened Ad and both players checked, the river showed 4c. Oboodi raised 1.3 million and Goldberg reraised to 4 million, Oboodi released his hand and lost his chip lead. Goldberg stayed in the lead until the 48th hand when he lost a huge pot of 5.62 million to Oboodi.
The action slowed down for a while and the next elimination did not happen until the 67th hand when Oboodi sent Darren Elias to the rail. At that stage the blinds went up to 120,000/240,000 with 30,000 ante, Elias raised from the button, Oboodi reraised to 1.1 million, Elias pushed all in, Obodi called and showed pocket kings. Elias opened pocket jacks. The board of 10d, 5h, 4d, 6h, 3h was of no help at all and Elias left in the fifth place with $230,610 payout.
Goldberg was the next to leave on the 102nd hand of the game when Oboodi raised from under the gun and Goldberg called the raise from the big blind. The flop showed 9d, 7s, 6h, Goldberg checked Oboodi bet 60,000 and Goldberg pushed all in. Oboodi called with Ah, 9h and Goldberg opened 10d, 9c. The turn of 7c, and the river of Jc blanked and Goldberg went home earning $280,925.
Dan Buzgon finished in the third position on the 120th hand against Jim Hwang. First Oboodi raised from the button, Buzgon reraised to just under 6 million going all-in, his raised was called by Hwang on the big blind, Oboodi chose to leave the hand and folded. Hweng showed Ah, Kh and Buzgon opened pocket sevens The board of Ac, 10h, 9c, Jc, 7h brought Hwang a Broadway straigh and Buzgon was eliminated with $335,433.
In the head-up Oboodi started with 23,19 million chips against Hwang with 17.125 million. Don’t forget that at the start of the day Oboodi began at the chip lead and Hwang had the smallest stake of just a few big blinds. Heads up did not last long and in the final hand 138 with the blinds of 250,000/500,000 and 50,000 anteHwang raised to 1.25 million from the big blind and Oboodi called. The flop came with 7s, 6s, 6c, both of them checked, the turn opened Js. Hwang checked, Oboodi bet, Hwang raised and Oboodi called. The river brought 3s. Hwang showed Kc, Jh for a two pair but Oboodi opened As, 2s for a flush. Hwang finished in the second place with $554,303.
