WPT Amneville Day 1b

Day 1b of the WPT Amneville kicked off on Wednesday when 203 players came to the tables. Combining with the 173 players registered on Day 1a this make the total number of participants of 379, in line with earlier expectations. This number of participants generate a prize pool of €1,164,288 with the first prize of €310,633 and $25,000 seat in the WPT Champoionship. By the end to the evening 105 players remained in the game and progressed into Day 2, with Jean-Francois Rigollet leading the field with 164,700 chips.

Just as the leader from Day 1a Nicolas Babel, Rigollet is a local player living in Paris. He is not that well known and has only got four cash outs and $46,576 in live tournament earnings. Rigollet’s most significant cashout was in March this year at $1,000 Wynn Classic event, when he finished second and eaned $27,315.

There was no lack of well-known faces at the Day 1b and some of them hit the rail during the coarse of the day including Bertrand Grospellier, Kevin MacPhee, Brandon Canty and Ludovic Lacay.

Grosspellier hit the rail at level 5 when the action folded to Bastien Faessen, on the small blind. Faessen raised, Grospellier, on the big blind, reraised and pushed all-in with Ah, Qh. Faessen called with pocket jacks. The board did not suit and of the players and Grospellier was eliminated.

Sam El Sayed, the defending champion of WPT Amneville, fell another victim of the day.

On the top of the leaderboard just behind Rigollet are Thibaut Durand with 147,300 chips, Jamie Rosen with 145,300 chips and Erik Von Buxhoeveden with 142,700 chips.

Well-known players like Arnaud Mattern, Joseph Cheon, Ilan Rouah, Paul Berende and Marvin Rettenmaier are all through into Day 2 and hold good number of chips to stay in the game. Other well-known players still in the game but with slightly smaller chip count are Liv Boeree, Ozzy Sheikh, Roger Hairabedian, Bruno Fitoussi and  Ilan Boujenah.

All together 218 player progress into Day 2, which will take place on Thursday and will begin at 12:00 CET.
