WPT (World Poker Tour) Finals in Foxwoods came to an end on Tuesday after a long eight hour and over 200-hand battle and Daniel Santoro was crowned champion after he overpowered Christian Harder in the heads-up.
At the start of the day Steven Brackesy began in the lead and Andy Frankenberger , former WPT champion, began with the shortest stack. Eli Berg fell the first victim of the day when he was eliminated after just three starting hands. With blinds at 8,000/16,000/2,000 Berg raised to 36,000. Harder called and so did Frankenberger. The flop opened Kc, 7s, 7d, Frankenberger checked, Berg bet 73,000, Harder called and Frankenberger decided to fold. 10d came on the turn, Berg checked, Harder bet 104,000 and Berg pushed all-in. Harder called and opened pocket aces. Berg showed Kh, Qd. 7h came on the river sending Berg home in the sixth place with $83,580 prize.
Frankenberger was the next to go in the 13th hand with $99,585 payout. In this hand, with blinds at the same level Brackesy raised to 37,000, Santoro called, Harder three-bet to 127,000 and Frankeberger reraised and pushed all-in. Brackesy and Santoro chose to fold, however Harder called without a shadow of a doubt and showed pocket kings against Frankenberger’s Ac, 10c. The board of 9d, 5c, 4h, 5s, 10s could not help the former champion and he went to the rail in the fifth place.
Brackesy became the next victim and was eliminated just 10 hands later by Santoro, when Brackesy pushed all-in preflop with Ac, 4c. Saronto called with pocket queens. The board completely blanked for both players and Brackesy headed to the cashier to collect his $129,816 fourth place prize.
It took a while for the next elimination of Bob Carbone to happen. With the blinds at 15,000/30,000/5,000 Santoro, on the button, raised to 60,000 and Carbone, on the big blind, went all-in. Sartono with pocket aces immediately called. Carbone opened pocket tens. The board of 7s, 5c, 4d, Kc, 9c missed both players and Carbome left with $166,271 third place prize.
In the heads-up it was between Santoro with 4.49 million chips and Harder with 1.23 million.
28 hands into heads-up Harder lost a massive pot and was thrown down to just 9 big blinds, although in the next hand he successfully doubled up, he still had just 780,000 chips against nearly 5 million of Harder’s. Over next few hands Santoro grew his chips up to 1.21 million but then after several more hands he lost another huge pot. Once again Santoro doubled up in the following hand and brought his chip count to 1.71 million chips. He went on to take over the next big pot of 1.8 million and brought his chip count up to nearly equal to Harder’s and a few hands later for the first time even took a small lead.
Santoro refused to give in and stuck to his guns and in hand 189 took the lead again with 3.18 million against 2.49 million. The chip position did not change much over the next few hands up until the last hand No 200.
With blinds at 40,000/80,000/10,000 Harder, on the button, raised to 160,000, Santoro reraised to 425,000, Harder reraised and pushed all-in and Santoro immediately called. Santoro showed Ac, Ks and was against pocket tens. The flop brought Jc, 8c, 5s, so Harder’s tens still stood ahead. The turn of 2h was a blank. However the river delivered a Kc, that Santoro needed so badly. Harder finished in the second place with $248,962 payout and Santoro became the champion of the WPT Foxwoods.
