First World Poker Tour WPT Malta event came to an end on Saturday 24/09/2011. November Niner 2011, Matt Giannetti was crowned as the new champion and took the top prize of $273,200, proving to all everyone that his tremendous run the year is not just random smile of luck.
Tristan Clemencon began the final day in the lead. Soon after the action started Mats Karlson hit the rail in the eighth place, Chrstofer Williamson followed his foot next in the seventh place so the official WPT final table began that that stage. Ceclia Pescaglini was the final table chip leader closely followed by Giannetti. It took just a couple of hands for the next player to bust out.
Fabian Sartoris pushed all in on the button against Simon Trumper on the big blind. Sartoris opened Kd, 9s against Trumper’s pocket fives. The board of Js, 8h, 4d, 8d, Qd completely missed both players and Sartoris headed through the door.
Despite starting the day in the lead Clemencon was the next to go in the fifth position. First Trumper raised to 65,000, got called by Clemencon on the small blind, then Pescaglini enetered the game on the big blind and reraised to huge 230,000. Trumper chose to fold, however Clemencon decided to push all in with pocket kings. Pescaglini opened Ah, Kh. First the flop and the turn of Jd, 10d, 8c, 3s favored Clemencon, howver Ac on the river finished his hopes for the top prize and the title.
Trumper left on the 19th hand of the final table. Pescaglini was again responsible for this elimination. In the similar manner to the final hand with Clemencon he Ac, 8c hit the ace on the board and took over her opponent’s pocket pair.
Three handed player lasted over 100 hands until Filippo Bianchini hit the rail on the 122nd hand of the final when he pushed all in pre flop with his last 300,00 chips (3 times big blind at that stage) he was called by both Giannetti and Pescaglini. The flop brought 7d, 5d, 2h. Giannetti bet and Pescaglini called. The turn opened 5h and both players check this time. The river showed 2c and both players checked again. Giannetti tables pocket sixes, Pescaglini showed Ah, 10d and Bianchini had 4s, 3h.
It only took a few hands to decide the heads up when both players were all in on the flop of 10c, 8h, 2c. Pescaglini tabled Qs, 10d and Gianneti opened 9c, 7d. The Js on the turn completed Giannetti’s straight and 2s on the river crowned him the new WPT Malta champion
