The biggest event in live poker the WSOP 2011 November Nine never fails to deliver and the fist day of the final was no exception. After a long four months wait nine finalists of the WSOP 2011 returned to the table at the Penn and Teller Theatre hoping to make in to Tuesday when the final three will be competing for the top prize and the title of the champion. Martin Staszko, Ben Lamb and Pius Heinz managed to keep their dream alive and are still for a chance to win the bracelet.

San Holden fell the first victim of the day in the 51st hand when Ben Lamb raised fromunder the gun to 1.7 million. Holden on the small blind reraised and went all in with 11,125 million. Lam called and showed Ah, Kx against Holden’s As, Js. The flop of Ac, 9c, 8c gave Lamb the top paid and a draw for a flush. Than Qc on the turn finished the WSOP journey for Holden and sent him to the cashier to collect his $782,115 ninth place prize.

A few hands later Anton Makiievskyi busted out in the eighth place when he pushed all in on the small blind with 10.5 million chips holding Kc, Qh. Pius Heinz, on the big blind, called with pocket nines. The flop brought Kd, Jh, Js and put Makiievskyi in the lead. However 9c fell on the turn and awarded Heinz a full house. 7h on the river missed both players and sent Makiievskyi to the rail with a little over $1 million.

After this hand Heinz established a chip lead which he only improved through out the day. The next victim of the day became Bob Bounahra when Martin Staszko raised to 1.7 million and Bounahra pushed all in with 4.475 million. Staszko called and showed As, 9d against Bounahra’s Ah, 5c. The board brought 7c, 6h, 2c, Kh, 6d missed both players and Bounahra went to the rail in the seventh place with $1,314,097 for his efforts.

By the 73rd hand into the game Phil Collins had the second smallest stack at the table and pushed all in with his last 13.575 million chips. Ben Lamb called from the big blind with Ac, Qc. Collins opened Qh, Jd. The flop of Kd, 5d, 3h and the turn of 10d gave Collins a flush and a straight draw. Then Qd on the river completed the straight and doubled up his stack to 28 million.

Eughan O’Dea was eliminated next in the sixth place. First he lost a huge pot when Ben Lamb shoved all in prelop. O’Dea called and opened Ac, 9d. He was in the lead against Lamb’s Qd, 8d. The flop of Js, Jd, 6d and the turn 4c kept this lead but 8h on the river changed everything and crippled O’Dea to just 2.6 million in chips. The game for O’Dea was over in just four hands after that when he went all in preflop with Qh, 6c. Staszko called with pocket eights. The board of 10h, 9c, 5h, Jd, 2h could not help O’Dea and he hit the rail with $1,720,831 to take home.

The following hands brought the next victim and the field was cut down to four. First Pius Heinz raised to 2.1 million and Phil Collins on the big blind reraised all in with 18.3 million with Ad, 7d. Heinz called and showed pocket nines. Although the flop of 6s, 5c, 4d gave Collins a straight draw, 9d on the turns awarded Heinz with a set it also delivered more outs for Collins. However the 7s came up on the river and Collins finished his WSOP journey with $2,269,599 5th place reward.

After the dinner break the pace of the game slowed down while Heinz still maintained the chip lead. At this stage lamb was a short stack and needed all the help he could get to stay in the game. Such help came from Matt Giannetti on the 174th hand. Giannetti raised to 2.6 million, Lambwent all in the 26.8 million and Giannetti called with pocket jacks. Lamb opened Ah, 7h. The flop of Kh, 9d, 5h presented Lamb with a flush draw. Then 4h fell on the turn and completed the flush doubling Lamb up to 55 million chips and crippling Giannetti.

Although Giannetti managed to double up in the very next hand he could not keep his short stack for a long time. And on hand 178 he was all in with Ad, 3s against Lamb’s pocket kings. The flop of Kh, Kc, Qd finished Giannetti and sent him home with $3,012,700 pay out.
