WSOPE 2011 Event 1, Day1

By Julia, 09, October, 2011 - 16:43

The new World Series of Poker Europe tour began its 2011 series at the Hotel Majestic Barriere, in France. WSOPE Event 1, €2.500 Six Max No Limit Texas Holdem attracted 360 players from around the world and dwarfed the previous year’s 244 attendance.

Eight 60 minute rounds were played in the first day and nearly 70% of the field was cut down. Flavien Guenan finished the day in the lead although it was Benjamin Pollak who was expected to finish at the top. First he eliminated Nicolas Levi, who began the hand with a raise and got called by Pollak from the button with Qs, Js. The flop came with Jc, Ks, 4s and both players checked. The turn opened 7c, both players checked again and the As came on the river when Levi check-raised to 10,000, Pollak pushed all in and Levi called. When Pollak opened his hand Levi mucked and left the table with nothing.

When the action of the day seemed to come to an end and the media and the players started to leave two players were still playing hard. Flavien Guenan and Allessandro Speranza were looking at the flop of Jc, 4d, 2s. It seemed that neither of them were aware of the fact that they were the last two remaining in the game. Guenan checked on the flop, Speranza bet 3,800 and Guenan called. 9s came on the turn. Once again Guenan checked, Speranza bet, this time 9,500 chips, and Flavien called.  The river brought Ks and Guenan checked again for the third time, Speranza bet 37,500 and Guenan called all in. Spenanza opened Qd, 7d to see Guenan’s Ah, Jh.

The media pulled their laptops out of the bags to rewrite the news stories of the day and amend the chip leader.

There will be a few well known faces in the day 2 of the event including Vanessa Selbst, John Racener, Daniel Negreanu and Phil Hellmuth..
