WSOPE Event 4, €3,200 No Limit Texas Holdem Shootout

Day 3 of WSOPE Event 4, €3,200 No Limit Texas Holdem Shootout, began at 15:00 CET, when 10 players came back to the final table. It took 90 for the first casualty of the day to emerge.  John Armbrust hit the rail after he got short stacked following failed bluff against Max Silver, than a few hands later his pocket sixes failed to stand against Ad, 7c of Taylor Paur.

It took another 90 minutes of play before the next player headed through the door. This time is was James Dempsey whose pocket rights ran into Bertrand Grospellier’s pocket nines.  30 minutes later it was Emil Patel who was on the way to the cashier for his seventh place cash out, he was soon followed by Steve O’Dwyer.

With five players left at the table Tristan Wade, who took it easy up to this point, stepped up a gear and showed his opponents a lesson of controlled super aggressive play. He was the first player to step over one million chips mark and all the spectators at the rail enjoyed truly fascinating action. Grospellier was the next to go in the fifth place, he was eliminated by Michael Watson. Wastson carried on his assault and busted out Max Silver in the fourth place. In the mean while Wade sent Richard Toth home and the heads-up between the USA and Canada was set.

Although Wade began heads-up slightly lower in chips than Watson, he did not seem to be intimidated and brilliantly managed to pick up weak spots in his opponent’s defense, grinding down Watson’s chip stack at every opportunity. Although Watson managed to double up when his K, T outran Wade’s pocket jacks, just a couple hands later he pushed all in with Ah, 5h to see Wade with another pair of pocket jacks. The board of Qs, Qd, 4h, 19c, 2h did nothing to help Watson and awarded Wade with the bracelet and the top prize.
