The WSOPE 2011 Main Event came to conclusion. Elio Fox has won the €10,400 buy-in Championship title, the WSOPE bracelet and €1,400,000 top prize.
The event began on October 15th and 593 players entered the competition making this the record breaking event in WSOPE Main Event history. A prize pool of €5,692,800 was generated and 64 top places were paid with massive €3,890,000 for the top eight places.
Max Silver from the UK fell the first victim of the WSOPE 2011 Main Event Final and was eliminated during level 24 by another Brit, Chris Moorman.
Moorman raised to 60,000, with the blinds 15,000/30,000 and antes 5,000, Sliver raised to 165,000, Moorman reraised 365,000, Silver pushed all-in and Moorman called. Moorman opened pocket jacks to see Silver’s As, Kh. The board ran queen high missing both players and Silver headed to the cashier for him €115,000 pay out.
Jake Cody, another UK player, was next to go. Cody won his first WSOP title in Las Vegas this summer and was thought to be one of the favorites for this event. Cody reraised Fox’s raise of 110,000 to 260,000. Fox than pushed the stakes to 600,000, Cody went all-in and without a moment of a doubt Fox called. Fox opened pocket tens against Cody’s pocket jacks. Cody being a clear favorite at the start watched the board running with 8d, 8c, 6h, 9h, 6s in disappointment. Cody’s cash out in the seventh place earned him €150,000.
Next one through the door was Shawn Buchanan, although he started the day in the short stack, he did very well and got back in the game. In this hand Fox began with 120,000 raise on the button, Dermot Blain pushed all-in at the small blind and Buchanan pushed all-in from the big blind. Fox chose to fold and Blain showed Ad, 4c against pocket tens of Buchanan. The flop brought Qd, 3d, 2d adding Blain’s outs of a flush or a straight. 7c on the turn gave Buchanan some hope but then Ac came on the river and finished the show for Buchanan. This deep run gave him €200,000 pay out.
Blain himself was eliminated next in the fifth place by Brian Roberts. Blain began with 175,000 bet and got three-bet by Roberts to 350,000. Blain than pushed for 1,76 million and after a long thought Roberts called. Blain showed Ks, Qh against Roberts’ Ah, Jd. The board came with Ac, Qc, 2d, 9h, 2c meaning the end of the journey for Blain with €275,000 reward.
Roberts was eliminated in the fourth place after he last a big number of chips to Moorman and Fox. In the final hand Roberts pushed all-in with Jc, 8c with just under one million chips against Moorman’s shove on the small blind with Qh, 4h. The flop of 8s, 7d, 6d gave Roberts some hope. His hopes grew stronger with 2h on the turn. However 5d on the river meant it was time for Roberts to say goodbye and go to the cashier for his €400,000 prize.
Moritz Marnich was hoping to become second German player to win WSOPE bracelet and earn the Triple Crown. His expectations were cut short by Fox. Fox raised from the blind to 160,000, Kranich reraised to 1.6 million. Fox called without any hesitation and opened pocket nines against Kranish’s 5h, 4h. The flop of 7s, 6d, 2h provided Kranich with some outs, the Ac on the turn missed both players. 4s on the river only gave Kranich an under pair so went packing with the third prize of €550,000.
The heads up for the bracelet was set up between Elio Fox, USA, with 11,095 million chips and Chris Moorman, UK, with 6,720 million. The money difference was nearly $1 million (€6000, 000) and a lot more at stake. Moorman was also playing for a chance to win the WSOP player-of-the-year award. Another man who was watching the duel with nervous anticipation was James Bord, who recently said , "I don't think an American can win the bracelet; Europeans are now far superior. We used to look up to the U.S. players back in the day, but those days are now long gone. I'm prepared to put my money where my mouth is and refund any losing bets up €500 if an American wins." This bet was placed at Matchbook.com and Bord was standing to cover all the bet up to €500 if Fox won the event.
20 hands into heads up Fox won a good chunk of Moorman’s chips. Fox, on the button, raised to 200,000, Moorman called. Jc, 6c, 5c came on the flop. Moorman checked, Fox bet 250,000. After a long thought Moorman raised to 625,000 and Fox called. As came on the turn, Moorman bet 950,000, Fox, with his fists tightly clenched under his chin called. To add to the suspense 10c appeared on the river, Moorman checked and Fox checked too. Fox showed Jh, 2c for the smallest flush and Moorman mucked his cards. That was the breaking point of the final.
In the last hand, Fox raised from the button to 200,000, Moorman three-bet up to 430,000 and Fox pushed all-in. Moorman called with about 2million chips that was still left in his stack. Moorman opened Ah, 7s against Ad, 10s of Fox. The flop opened 6s, 4s, 3h, giving Moorman some hopes, than 6d brought further hopes of the split pot but 8h on the river crowned Fox the WSOPE 2011 Main Event champion and Moorman had to be satisfied with €800,000 second prize.
